THEN:
It all began with
two ambitious 20 year olds, lifelong Contra Costa residents, with custom
wood working in their blood. They
began their association in the early 70s when they both worked for a
retail furniture store and moonlighted building custom furniture on the
weekends. In 1976, after a few
years of hard weekend work doing side jobs for friends and family
Steve and Gary left the retail business and began their own business working
full time, out of a garage in Concord. This venture
prospered nicely and in 1977 they purchased an existing cabinet manufacturer
and began to specialize in kitchen cabinetry, which was sold through a major
Contra Costa appliance store. This venture became so successful it resulted
in Blue Ridge Cabinets, establishing their name and hiring their first
employee in 1981. By
1984 they had
expanded their operations to cover the entire spectrum of cabinets, which
resulted in buying much more material and faster-more efficient tools,
recruiting an exceptional staff and needing to find much more room to work! By
1985, Blue Ridge
did acquire land and opened a second location in Pacheco off the Benicia
Bridge. Now they had it all, the equipment, the staff and the growing client
base they had worked so hard for. In 1989, Blue Ridge
Cabinets settled into an even better location, a brand new and much larger
facility with a staff of eight and a sales mix of 75% residence and 25%
commercial. Geographically
covering all the Bay Area and as far as Reno/Lake Tahoe and Palm Springs. Together, with
endless commitment, manpower and attention to detail, Steve and Gary built a
stable foundation and booming business.
As a manufacturer of quality wood cabinetry, the work of Blue Ridge
Cabinets can be found in numerous luxury homes, including the well-respected
Lesher home and many commercial buildings, throughout the greater bay area
and beyond. The level of precision, commitment and perfection on which Blue Ridge Cabinets prides itself has been recognized by The Oakland Tribune, Contra Costa Times, Diablo magazine and Better Homes and Gardens, to name a few. NOW: Today, Steve is continuing the quality and success of Blue Ridge Cabinets, solely.
